Our Trip To The VGExpo

This weekend the VGExpo (videogame expo) rolled into the Pennsylvania Convention Center here in TDL's native Philadelphia. Last year you might recall, we did three segments of Root Access from the show, and planned to do the same this year to talk about the must-haves in the gaming world for the holiday season.

As you'll see in the video, that didn't quite work out this time.

Our quick impressions though; the show was much smaller than last year.. It's a good thing Nintendo showed up, as they had by far the largest booth. Oh, and of course we saw several Stormtroopers, (and other forces of evil) but felt safe thanks to the presence of the PA Jedis. Oh, and Jamie did pushups. That about wraps it up. If you're more of a visual learner though, here you go:

Root Access: By Request, More With the Dell 9 and OS X

Due to popular demand, we've got another look at the Dell Mini 9 running OS X. Today we take a look at some key mac apps running on the Dell, and look at some rough benchmarking. It's really quite remarkable to see iPhoto and other apps so responsive on such a low cost machine. The test unit had 2GB of RAM, but was still less than $450, including a hard drive upgrade.

Enjoy!

Root Access: Mobile Me Rage

There's one topic that causes people to get angrier than anything else on the blog. It's not Microsoft. It's not Apple TV. It's not even the long, slow death of firewire. No, it's Mobile Me. In this segment of Root Access, Jamie and I look at why people are so passionate on both sides of the issue, and why it causes such a response:

Root Access: Hands On with a Dell Mini 9 Running OS X

A few weeks ago, Jamie mentioned he was installing OS X on his Dell mini 9 for the sake of educational purposes. Well, he stopped by for a fresh taping of Root Access, and brought the MacinDell with him. In the first segment he talks about the challenges (or lack of) in installing Mac OS X the Dell. The second segment focuses on the usability of the hack, and what Apple could learn from the performance of the Dell. And finally, we shot b roll of the OS in action, but due to some time constraints, it wasn't edited into the other two clips, so now you can take a look at that unedited in the third clip.

Root Access Visits The Video Game Expo (VGExpo)

Saturday Jamie and I checked out the VGExpo, or Video Game Expo in Philadelphia. Try as we might, we just couldn't find the Mac gaming section. We did get to see people dressed in some cool (and some not so cool) costumes, and we met some super-young Call of Duty players. Here's our take on the event, the state of gaming, etc.:
