Root Access: Hands On with a Dell Mini 9 Running OS X

A few weeks ago, Jamie mentioned he was installing OS X on his Dell mini 9 for the sake of educational purposes. Well, he stopped by for a fresh taping of Root Access, and brought the MacinDell with him. In the first segment he talks about the challenges (or lack of) in installing Mac OS X the Dell. The second segment focuses on the usability of the hack, and what Apple could learn from the performance of the Dell. And finally, we shot b roll of the OS in action, but due to some time constraints, it wasn't edited into the other two clips, so now you can take a look at that unedited in the third clip.

Wow - very cool. A few questions:
1 - does the 3rd installment NOT have any sound?
2 - How does the Dell trackpad do? Does two finger tracking work? How about left and right clicking?
3 - Would AppleJack still be useable at startup?
4 - any reason to think this would not be as easy on the Dell Mini 12?

what a great effort and fun to watch vids. thanks!

I'd urge anyone interested in Hackintoshing the Dell Mini 9 to check out mydellmini.com
It's a great resource.

To answer a few questions:

-I don't think Apple would know if you developed iPhone apps on the Dell.

-left/right clicks work fine. There is an experimental hack for enabling 2 finger scrolling, but it doesn't work all the well (yet)

-Any software that runs on 10.5.6 should still run.

-I'd recommend the Mini 9 over the 12. It's easier to upgrade and supports 2 gigs of ram. The 12 mini does not.
