Macgirl Media Pick of the Week: GJB FTW!

So most readers know I'm a big fan of the tv show LOST.  I was thrilled to find at the start of the new season that Jorge Garcia (Hugo Reyes on LOST), had started a LOST podcast with his girlfriend Beth.  We already enjoy his musings on his blog "dispatchesfromtheisland.blogspot.com" here at TDL, so this addition was exciting news.

Having listened to all of their podcasts so far, I definitely recommend listening for any LOST fan to get a different perspective into the show.  The idea of the podcast:  they both read and review each episode SCRIPT as it arrives, and discuss their thoughts and theories.  Then, after the episode has aired (often months later), they record a follow up to the earlier discussion, noting changes or differences in how the scenes looked in the show verses how it read.  There is a healthy dose of commentary and cute banter.  I enjoy listening to both of them, and am glad they took on this project.  It definitely had added to my overall LOST experience.  So check them out!  Geronimo Jack' s Beard is a fun trip into the LOST universe. (be sure to check out the great artwork and theme music too, donated by friends and fans.)

Macgirl Media Pick of the Week: LOST!

If you have been following the fantastically-complex and sci-fi thrilling series LOST, you know what is coming on February 2nd. It will be the two-hour season opener to, sadly, the final season of LOST.   Yes, the ABC series (also produced by JJ Abram's Bad Robot Productions) will come to an end this year.

I have mixed feelings about this being the final season.  I am glad that series writers and producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse (along with many others) will be able to complete the story arc and tell the complete story.  On the other hand, they have opened so many cans of worms, introduced so many compelling characters, it's hard to believe just one more (fairly short) season will leave us feeling satisfied.  I hope I am wrong.  To help tied you over until the series premiere, here's a link to the recap for Seasons 1-5 on iTunes.  Enjoy!

Wednesday Website of the Week:  DarkUFO

I am a huge LOST fan.  Really, a closeted obsessed fan.  And  LOST is coming to an end.  Soon.  While their is still time to obsess over every word and read into every glance Kate makes and try to solve the mystery of the smoke monster...I'll be heading to DarkUFO.  I have been visiting this great site for years now, studying every theory and generally over-thinking LOST.

The site is run by "Dark" and there are several good consistant contributors such as "E" who post episode recaps, theories, and more.  The best thing for me is the total lack of spoilers.  Althought Dark also runs a sister spoiler-based TV site, everthing posted to the main page is completely spoiler-free...including comments!  This is a huge accomplishment with a super popular show with tons of small and large spoilers lurking around every bend.  Spoilers aside, they just designed some nifty LOST tees, and have been having cool custom LOST-related  giveaways on the blog.

So be sure to check the site out, before the LOST fever winds down and I will have to turn my attentions to...Caprica??

Wednesday Website of the Week: Dispatches From The Island

We often put celebrities on pedestals. They don't like the same things we do, or deal with the same problems we do. Well guess what? That's not always the case. Take Jorge Garcia, one of the stars of ABC's hit "Lost." For those unfamiliar, Jorge plays Hurley, one of the more easygoing castaways on the island. (believe me, we're brushing over a lot of mythology of his character over the last five years.)

Jorge has his own blog, Dispatches From the Island. If you're looking for Lost spoilers, this isn't the place for you. Instead, this is Jorge's personal blog of his own experiences, and sure there's some crossover. For example, he recently blogged about his trip to Comic-Con, but he wasn't talking about the Lost panel, instead he was talking about the swag at the event, things that personally excited him, and a look at his hotel room. You realize that like a lot of us, it's the kind of event Jorge would attend even if that whole major TV show gig wasn't going on.

He's one of us. One of the guys who enjoys a trip to a theme park, or a snapshot with Star Trek gadgets. In short, we'll call him one of the good guys. Check out dispatchesfromtheisland.blogspot.com

And Now, Some Stats For The Pirates

It may come as a shock to the law-abiding reader, but some people choose to get their media by more nefarious means. This week the Hollywood Reporter took a look at the most pirated TV shows of the week.

The winner (or loser, depending on how you look at it) was Heroes, with 1.76 million downloads, just beating out Lost with 1.7 million downloads. It would be interesting to see how those numbers compare to the number of times those shows were purchased on iTunes over the same period. The stats come from a company called ShowInsider. It sort of begs the question though: if you know how many copies of a specific file are being downloaded, shouldn't you be able to stop it?

Rounding out the top ten were: "House," "24," "The Big Bang Theory," "How I Met Your Mother," "South Park," "Family Guy," "Gossip Girl," and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles". The Hollywood Reporter plans on making this a new weekly feature. We will not.
