Macgirl Media Pick of the Week: GJB FTW!

So most readers know I'm a big fan of the tv show LOST.  I was thrilled to find at the start of the new season that Jorge Garcia (Hugo Reyes on LOST), had started a LOST podcast with his girlfriend Beth.  We already enjoy his musings on his blog "dispatchesfromtheisland.blogspot.com" here at TDL, so this addition was exciting news.

Having listened to all of their podcasts so far, I definitely recommend listening for any LOST fan to get a different perspective into the show.  The idea of the podcast:  they both read and review each episode SCRIPT as it arrives, and discuss their thoughts and theories.  Then, after the episode has aired (often months later), they record a follow up to the earlier discussion, noting changes or differences in how the scenes looked in the show verses how it read.  There is a healthy dose of commentary and cute banter.  I enjoy listening to both of them, and am glad they took on this project.  It definitely had added to my overall LOST experience.  So check them out!  Geronimo Jack' s Beard is a fun trip into the LOST universe. (be sure to check out the great artwork and theme music too, donated by friends and fans.)

Macgirl's Media Pick of the Week: Ok Go!

This too shall pass...I've heard it before, and it's so very true.  After far too many weeks off (darn mid-reviews) I'm back with my media pick of the week.  A bit late, but "better late than never", (boy am I full of them today!), I am giving props to Ok Go's latest clever video creation.  How can you not enjoy this Rube Goldberg Machine ride?  The song is catchy as most of their tunes are, and the video bears repeat viewings.  As a geek I have to give props to the production of this work of art- and am happy to hear that a few NASA engineers were involved as well.

Enjoy!

Here's This Too Shall Pass on iTunes.

Check it out, and enjoy the ride!

Macgirl's Media Pick of the Week: Y Rock on XPN

We'd all like to think we have great taste.  A well-rounded, hip view of music is an important part of your persona, no?  Well I'd like to think its part of mine (I'll take the hip part with a grain of salt).  Which brings me to this week's pick: Y Rock on XPN.  If you're a native Philadelphian you will remember Y-Rock as Y-100, and its demise in 2005.  Thankfully, through WXPN, you can catch Y Rock streaming online anytime, anywhere.  It also broadcasts Wednesday and Thursday nights 8pm-11pm, and Friday nights 7pm-11pm, on 88.5 FM(WXPN).  They have an app as well, but if you're at your computer stick with the stream, it's a higher bit rate...

One afternoon can bring you classics by the The Smiths and XTC to new releases by the Gorillaz, Mike Doughty and The Ting Tings.  I am partial to any station that plays New Order, meaning that Y Rock is streaming on my computer most of the day.  It has the added bonus of discovering new artists and being surprised by what's on next!(oh that crazy radio!)  Check it out next time you tire of listening to your iPod remix (again).

Macgirl's Media Pick of the Week: Puppy Bowl VI

It's the puppy event of the year- PUPPY BOWL!  I mostly look forward to the Super Bowl for the beer, yummy snack foods and (sometimes) clever commercials, but most of all I look forward to this half time event. I love that all of the puppies are shelter dogs, and are up for adoption on PetFinder.com I can get behind any event that helps stray animals find homes.  Besides, it's crazy cute and funny to watch!

They are taking production up a notch this year- they have added a blimp with a "rogue hampster crew".  And don't miss the super too-cute-to-be-true part: a halftime within the puppy bowl- Kitty Half-Time Show.  So take a break from the Super Bowl action...you don't need to hear more commentary (those guys don't know what they're taking about!)  Watch the Puppy Bowl.   It's a great way to enjoy the super bowl with your Mrs.

Puppy Bowl VI

Airs this Sunday, February 7 from 3-5PM e/p on Animal Planet.

Macgirl Media Pick of the Week: LOST!

If you have been following the fantastically-complex and sci-fi thrilling series LOST, you know what is coming on February 2nd. It will be the two-hour season opener to, sadly, the final season of LOST.   Yes, the ABC series (also produced by JJ Abram's Bad Robot Productions) will come to an end this year.

I have mixed feelings about this being the final season.  I am glad that series writers and producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse (along with many others) will be able to complete the story arc and tell the complete story.  On the other hand, they have opened so many cans of worms, introduced so many compelling characters, it's hard to believe just one more (fairly short) season will leave us feeling satisfied.  I hope I am wrong.  To help tied you over until the series premiere, here's a link to the recap for Seasons 1-5 on iTunes.  Enjoy!
