Wednesday Website of the Week: Lifehacker.com

This week's website of the week, can improve your 3G coverage, show you how to conceal credit card purchases, and show you how to get super glue off almost anything. The aptly named lifehacker gives a ton of tips every day from every part of life, especially tech, organization, and cooking. If you want to get more out of every day, check out lifehacker.com.

Wednesday Website of the Week:  Regretsy.com

I'm taking over the reigns of the WWW to bring you one of my favorite sites.  Called Regretsy, it is a very funny site mocking Etsy.com (the popular handmade goods site).  They find actual listings of goods on the web, mostly handmade, and, well, mock the heck out of them.  But the site is poking good-natured fun and even super-sensitive macgirl here finds it to be funny without being too mean. Some artists even end up selling items because of the regretsy mention- there's no such thing as bad press, after all.

Here's a great example of what you'll find on the site:

Wednesday Website of The Week: Give a Day, Get a Day

(In keeping with the spirit of the holidays we're dedicating our weekly WWW to great sites/causes for the month of December.)

This is probably the first time we've ever linked to a Disney page for charitable reasons. Hey, we love the mouse house as much as anyone (probably a bit more) but Disney isn't the first name you think of, when you think of people in need.

As you may recall from the ads that played about a month ago (and will probably pick up again shortly) Disney is making a unique offer for their 2010 promotion: Essentially, doing a day of volunteer service for a participating organization will earn you a single day admission to a Disney theme park. We don't know just which organizations are participating, or how the logistics of the offer will play out, but you can sign up here now, and they'll email the details when they're available on January 1st. The project is powered by the HandsON Network, billed as the largest volunteer network in the nation. Or just check the site on New Year's. Hey, you might as well extend the spirit of giving into the new year, and get something back at the same time!

Wednesday Website of The Week: VolunteerMatch.org

(In keeping with the spirit of the holidays we're dedicating our weekly WWW to great sites/causes for the month of December.)

Who isn't a little short on cash these days? But we still all have the same 24 hours in the day. And while it can seem that our own schedules could make volunteering for non-profits difficult, this week's website of the week certainly makes it easier.

VolunteerMatch.org does just what its name implies: it works as a clearinghouse, allowing you to find the perfect volunteer opportunity for you, in a fraction of the time of trying to hunt one down via the newspaper, word of mouth, etc. A quick local search (no login needed to search) brought back a wide range of opportunities from nationwide organizations like the Red Cross, to local library opportunities. Big and small opportunities await!

Wednesday Website of the Week: nuruInternational.org

(In keeping with the spirit of the holidays we're dedicating our weekly WWW to great sites/causes for the month of December.)

Imagine seeing the horrors of war in Iraq as a Marine, then deciding to help rid the world of violence by exterminating extreme poverty. That's what Jake Harriman did when he started Nuru. Last month Loop Insight had a great profile of Nuru, so I won't tell the whole story here again, especially when this video gives you the basic and noble goals behind the project:
