Return of the Pippin?
Maybe some of you have seen the latest rumors involving Apple purchasing either Twitter or EA.
You probably think there is no way Apple is going to spend $700 million on a (fad) like Twitter or $10 billion on EA. Maybe you agree with Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter that Apple would be better off spending $3 billion to acquire Warner Music and its 20 percent of all recorded music.
But judging by Apple's latest moves, there is no denying something big is in the works.
-Hiring Richard Teversham from Microsoft's Xbox business
-Hiring Bob Drebin, chief technologist at AMD's graphics group and creator of the Nintendo Gamecube's graphics processor.
-Hiring chip designer Mark Papermaster as head of Apple's iPod business from IBM.
- Purchased 3.6% of U.K.-based ImagInation, licensing its PowerVR graphics technology.
- Last year Apple purchased processor designer PA Semi for $378 million
Dare we dream of an Apple game console?!?

One thing I've learned with Apple through the years: Think different and dream bigger guys. Look at all the Apple patents accumulated over the last couple of years (just the ones we know about). Remember that Steve Jobs considers AppleTV in its current form a "hobby". In addition to its current capabilities - give that thing an HD tuner, load it up with Apple's DVR patents, give it a robust graphics chipset and gaming abilities (with full App store integration, of course), add in the iPhone / iPod Touch remote apps, plus ship it with the Apple remote "magic wand" patents working in all their glory, maybe an iPhone dock and slot-loading Blu-Ray player thrown in for good measure and you've got a TiVo and Wii killing living room device that's bound to make the kiddies happy. Maybe the 3-legged stool will become a 4-legged table before the end of the year. All the pieces are there.
Maybe we should think of the iPod Touch as a Pippin portable?
