Die MobileME Die
Monday, February 9, 2009 at 5:27PM
Incase you missed it Google enabled "cloud" based syncing for the iPhone today. Right now only contacts and calendars work, but when combined with IMAP ready Gmail, is there really any reason to be paying for MobileMe? Seriously, someone gives us one good reason. We dare you.

iDisk. Could not live without it. And there is no Gdisk.
Back to My Mac. I can control my desktop from across the country, transfer files from laptop, and so on.
iDisk and its integration into the Finder. While of course there are free net storage solutions, do any of them work like a folder on your desktop?
And while you have other photo album choices, the integration between iPhoto and Gallery offers a quick painless solution.
Ok gmail and google apps are great for sharing content with others, but they are not particularly useful when you are not on line and the ware very awkward to use.
I would rather pay more for better quality of service - something that mac.com offered and has not been as strong since the mobile me conversion.
But relying exclusively on google is years away for most business people.
How about the oush syncing of your mac your .me and your iphone. This function is super slick. I am doubting that Google will achieve the same level of fit and finish as Apple has in this respect.
This does mean you need to use the Address book app on OSX and the Mail.app program as well. If you do this already (I do), then the mobileme sync experience with iphone is stupendously superior to any other I have seen.
ie Edit a contact on your phone. Go look online at mobileme or in your mac's address book and they are already updated.
Super slick.
Also, what the heck is so great about having google sell you stuff anyhow?
Nope. For YOU there's no reason. So just drop out of MobileMe.
What I don't understand is your reason for this
whinepost. If you find it doesn't make economic or logical sense just stop it. What's your freaking problem. Just stop. And speaking of stopping, since this post of yours serves absolutely no purpose at all, just stop it, too. To use your phrase describing what should be done with something that's useless, "Die tDL Die."
But until you stop wasting bandwidth with this useless blog, at least do one small thing: QUIT WHINING!
Now, go back into your basement and go back to doing something useful like spending your time playing WOW. Next week, if you're nice, we'll tell you about girls!
I don't understand why people are so touchy about Mobile Me. I think the reason we rag on it a lot here is the simple fact that Apple could do a far better product. That's the real shame of MobileMe.
Seems to me the only reason to pay for MobileMe is to keep an email address that you may have be using since iTools. Or maybe you just like giving Apple 100 bucks a year. Kinda like donating to your favorite cause.
Gdisk is coming btw.
Now back to the basement.
With the new sync from Google you need to add it using the Exchange option under settings. It looks like you can only have one exchange option enabled on the iPhone so if I currently have work on exchange how will I get my personal contact on the iphone syncing remotely. I believe at the moment MobileMe provides me with the solution I am looking for
When you switch Macs and iPhones/iPods all the time it's also very convenient to have your keychain, settings and favorites back at the click of a button... Strange, though, that none of the solutions enable direct meeting invitation from the iPhone/iPod calendar. Enter our App...
