Wednesday Website of The Week: Travelpost.com

Recently, I went through the frustration of trying to find a good (and preferably cheap) hotel in the Niagara Falls area. Sure the prices were higher than I would've liked, but the thing that made it more difficult was the lack of any consistency in reviews of the hotels. It seemed like a hotel would be great on one site, and commenters on another site would point out deep, dark, secrets that would make you want to avoid it at all costs.

A new website, travelpost.com hopes to end this frustration by bringing together hotel reviews from "thousands of sites." The site is powered by kayak.com, so it also shows you the best prices, average room rates, etc.

The site is still new, but in a few quick glances, I could tell it was bringing together info that took me far longer to find across multiple sites.

If you're travelling, give it a shot!

Wednesday Website of The Week: Art of The Arcade

Speaking as someone who has blown-up artwork from four Atari cartridges above his desk, I really like this week's website of the week brought to us via dvice.com Art of the Arcade chronicles the artwork of the glory days of arcade games and cartridge systems. Back then, the artwork wasn't some sort of screen capture of in-game footage. Quite the opposite. The art sold the game. It showed you the world you could inhabit in your imagination when playing. And when the arcade cabinets and cartridges weren't selling us a fantasy world, they were delighting us with some of the best retro-fonts created.

While it looks like there's only four pages of artwork, click on the archive button for many more. Enjoy the trip down memory lane without spending a quarter at Art of The Arcade.

Wednesday Website of the Week: TheManRegistry.com

When it comes to weddings, guys have been getting the short end of the stick for quite some time. Oh sure ladies, you'll be showered with your favorite silverware, flatware, dishware, frillyware, but where's our hardware and software!?

Well, TheManRegistry.com is leveling the playing field. It's a one-stop site for the groom-to-be, including everything from gifts for your best man, to unique registry items for you (floating beer pong table, anyone?), and it also helps you find local vendors for man-centric wedding items. If you, or someone you know is getting married soon, don't let the ladies have all the fun. (Take it from me, picking which kitchen timer you want isn't all that fulfilling) Checkout TheManRegistry.com

Wednesday Website of The Week: CosmeticDatabase.com

You never know what you might be lathering on your skin. Well, actually now you will know. This week's featured website of the week is CosmeticDatabase.com . The site seeks to break down all of the ingredients found in popular cosmetics, sunscreens, shampoos etc, and rate the ingredients based on safety on a 1-10 scale.

While often no products in any particular category score wonderfully, and while not everyone may agree with the assessment of risks in the products, it is an interesting way to learn about ingredients and potential risks. So before you slather on that tanning oil, head over to the Cosmetic Database.
