Sounds of the season courtesy of the iPhone and iPad

Maybe it's not just smartphone and digital camera manufacturers who should be worried about the iPhone/iPad dominating their markets: look out musical instrument companies, you could be next. Enjoy these sounds of the season from the "iBand" at the North Point Community Church. See how many apps you recognize:

Macgirl Media Pick of the Week:July 4th Tunes!

Happy Independence Day!  In honor of our forefathers, here are a few places to pick up some patriotic tunes for your BBQ bash.

1st- be sure to check out this internet feed over at xpn.org!

Ok, now that you've have your fill of public radio, hop over to iTunes and check out the "4th of July" Album by American Patriots: 4th of July - American Patriots.  An album filled with the American classics like You're a Grand Old Flag, and the Star Spangled Banner,  it's a reminder about how far we've come as a nation, and how important our democracy is...

Finally, end the night with any or all of the Michael Jackson albums you may have. (I recommend Thriller, my favorite). The ultimate party mix for any good BBQ.

Happy grilling everyone!

Macgirl's Media Pick of the Week: Wild Soundtrack

I guess I'm still stuck in the dreamy-world Spike Jonze created in his new movie, Where the Wild Things Are.  Because I can't help loving the soundtrack, and the feelings it evokes.  Karen O and the Kids made the perfect soundtrack to an arguably-instant classic of a film.

Where the Wild Things Are Motion Picture Soundtrack mimics the highs and lows of the movie, and lends a dreamy, magical air to the film, and by extension, to your life.  Walking around listening to this music on your iPod allows you to form a bubble around yourself, and makes even the most mundane things around you seem to wink and sparkle.

This may be a sappy review, but it's an emotion-filled soundtrack, one that I am happy to use as my own.

Retro Tech Tuesday: LEGOs and 8-Bit Music Combined!

We'll admit it: we're cheating this week. Rather than talk longingly about some technology from a far off year, today we're looking at a new video featuring two of our favorite things: LEGOs and the glorious world of 8-bit music in this music video from Daniel Larrson. (Kudos to BuzzFeed for the find!)

Beatles To Showcase New Format At Apple Event?

For many years now, The Beatles have been arguably the highest profile holdouts from iTunes. Their (technically their rights holders) have shown through agreements like the one with Rock Band, that they are willing to bring the Beatles song catalog into the digital realm.

Couple that with the fact that we've been hearing for some time that Apple is working on a new, more immersive format for iTunes albums, moving beyond simple liner notes. Also keep in mind that the Beatles catalog is in the process of being remastered for a September 9 release, the same date as the next Apple event.

Coincidence? We doubt it.

Apple's "Cocktail" project is rumored to bring together music, behind the scenes video, and interactive liner content. Would there be any better way to pry money from the hands of Beatles fans who already own every piece of Beatles music than with extras that have never been available before. It will also allow Apple to get a huge amount of publicity for the new format.
