Babel Rising for the iPhone and iPod Touch Video Review

Who hasn't wanted to play God on occasion? In Babel Rising you get to use six natural calamities to wipe out scores of humans trying to build the Tower of Babel. Use earthquakes, lightning, waves, wind, and of course the good old crushing with the finger of God to keep the tower from being built.

The action is fast, and while it might frustrate some people, I found half the fun was figuring out how to deploy the six different attacks. (The secret to many of them is leaked in the video below.) Fun graphics and fast play make Babel Rising a good choice for quick play on the go.

Moto X Mayhem for the iPhone and iPod Touch Video Review

It can be tough to review a game that I, as the reviewer, am terrible at playing. Despite the laughable video below, I can appreciate the addictive play, fun audio, and solid graphics of Moto X Mayhem: an iPhone version of a similar flash game. It's a seemingly simple game relying on gravity acceleration and braking to keep you from flying off a motorcycle and becoming a pile of bones:

Pocket First Aid & CPR for the iPhone and iPod Touch

Not every iPhone app has the potential to save a life, but this is one of them. The American Heart Association has released their official Pocket First Aid and CPR app for the iPhone. The app offers concise information on several first aid topics, but the most useful and unique feature could be the CPR section, which describes different CPR methods and includes straightforward videos to make you more comfortable with the procedure, or to refresh your memory if you've previously taken a CPR class.

It makes us wonder if it wouldn't be better for the world if Apple made this app, or maybe an emergency icon available on the phone by default. Imagine if this app was deployed on every iPhone and iPod Touch.

Amazing Piano for the iPhone and iPod Touch Review

Want to carry a piano in your pocket? That's the premise behind Amazing Piano. Rather than being a straight-up re-creation of a keyboard, Amazing Piano takes a cue from Guitar Hero. You press letters on a QWERTY keyboard on-screen, as directed by a moving progression of notes, so you play notes like M# (the "m" key along with the "#" designation button. It sounds confusing, but makes sense when you watch the video below.)

Unfortunately, this configuration means there's a minimal amount of learning actual piano keys from playing. At the same time, there aren't enough different songs for it to be a full-fledged game. Amazing Piano can serve as a basic introduction to making music.

There's also a free version available (without the record feature of the full version) so take that for a test drive, and see if Amazing Piano is right for you.
