14 Year-old gives hope to young geeks everywhere

Meet 14 year-old Robert Nay, the programmer behind Bubble Ball, the most downloaded free app according to CNN, your trusted leader in news. It's refreshing to see someone so young not only excel, but unlike so many young celebs out there, he seems refreshingly normal.

Keep up the great work, Robert and we look forward to reviewing your next game.

CNN Tries to Explain Cloud Computing

It seemed like a rather odd thing to have front and center on a leading news site. But nonetheless, over the past 24 hours CNN has featured "A trip into the secret, online 'cloud'." What sounds like a fascinating journey into data centers, syncing, etc., is really simply a mildly entertaining series of drawings. Of a photo. Still it seemed worth sharing so you know what your parents might know about cloud computing.

While the example of flickr is accurate, the whole exercise seems to simply explain the fact that some files are uploaded rather than staying on your computer. I suppose that's good enough for grandma.

Here's a look (and an apology about the ad: that's CNN making a buck, not us.)

CNN Celebrates The Birthday of the Mac

See Apple, it's okay to acknowledge your past. Today CNN's iReport section is askingfor photos of your vintage Mac. This Saturday marks the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Macintosh, and all indications are that Apple will let the milestone come and go without any fanfare. It's quite a difference compared to the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh (which was released on the 20th anniversary of the company, not of the Mac.)

So send your Mac stories to CNN. And better yet, share them with the Mac community in the comments below as well.

What's Wrong With This Picture

As I was drifting off to sleep last night, I figured I would get up to date on the non-tech world with some CNN video. But before I could see the dramatic footage of a child who almost tumbled down the cliff, I had to watch a Brink's Security pre-roll. I managed to get a screen capture before it was over. Do you see what's wrong with the picture?

It looks like Brinks ad agency, or the person at CNN responsible for encoding, decided to give Flip4Mac a try. Literally. Using the trial version of software for the most popular cable news website might be dicey, but when the software adds a watermark... Oops...
