Star Trek Saturday, Episode One
Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 6:30AM We're excited to kick off our first Star Trek Saturday! If you happened to just bump into this blog entry here's what we're doing:
Starting today, each week we will be posting one Star Trek episode in its entirety, and in chronological order. We want lifelong fans and newbies to come together for this community viewing experience. Your comments on each episode are what will really drive the community. Again, if you've never watched a minute of Star Trek before, don't be afraid to join in.
Also, a huge thanks to Fancast and CBS for making these episodes available for posting.
Since this is the first episode, let's get some feedback on how the episodes are presented: Should we include a brief synopsis, or should each episode be a fresh surprise? Let's leave the fun factoids for the comments, but feel free to share them.

How would Kirk sum up this episode in 140 characters or less if he had a twitter feed?
Can anyone share any insight on stardate system? Was there a logic to it when the series began?

"This time system adjusts for shifts in relative time which occur due to the vessel's speed and space warp capability. It has little relationship to Earth's time as we know it. One hour aboard the USS Enterprise at different times may equal as little as three Earth hours. The stardates specified in the log entry must be computed against the speed of the vessel, the space warp, and its position within our galaxy, in order to give a meaningful reading." -Roddenberry
Trying to think of the last sci-fi show to not have a single explosion in the opening show.
There have been a whole bunch of non-official stardate standards over the years. Probably the most popular was used on some calendars. It just used the format yymm.d so today would be stardate 1001.16.
As for the episode, not one of my favorite episodes, but not horrible. One of the less believable monsters, in my opinion. But hey, much better than a lot of first season TNG episodes...
