Sales Trouble For New Shuffle? Retail Continues Stocking Old Model
I was surprised on a recent Apple Store visit to see the last generation iPod Shuffle on display. It's been three months since the new shuffle was announced, with mixed reviews, mainly stemming from the lack of any buttons. A quick call to five other Apple Store confirmed they too were still not only stocking, but also displaying the last generation model.
Secretly, I was relieved to see the older model. I am one of those people who think the shuffle without any controls is a bit too absurd. It's not like Apple to keep something on display in store three months after it has been replaced. Perhaps the last generation shuffle will stick around longer, maybe even longer than the model meant to replace it...

I think they are going to continue to make the last gen shuffle. I see it everywhere, and it is cute and affordable. I think they went overboard trying to innovate, and created something most people wouldn't want.
I have now had my third issue and replacement with the shuffle. The headphone cords seem to have been made as though nobody would sweat on them, so at very least they short out nearly immediately. Two of my shuffles themselves have been defective. I think until they smooth out these very obvious issues (the Apple Geniuses do not seem surprised by my issues) they will keep the older shuffle alive. And it works at a different price point. If it worked, would be one of my favorite iPods ever, however, for working out. The perfect iPod, with lax quality control nearly sinking it.
I'm on my third 3G shuffle. The first would not hold a charge. The second just stopped playing music, battery was at 75% full. Love it for workouts. Gave my 2G to my daughter. I hope the third time is the charm.
