Retro Tech Tuesday: GM's Futurama

Long before Futurama was a long-running (then cancelled, then back again) animated show, there was an entirely different kind of Futurama. As part of the 1939 World's Fair in NYC, General Motors dared to glimpse into the crystal ball and give us a vision of the distant world of.. 1960!

Yeah, here you are complaining that we don't have flying cars yet, well about something as simple as superfast, self-guided cars as seen in 1939!? The Futurama also predicted the ability to travel through highway intersections at up to 50mph! In all seriousness, while most of the fanciful features still haven't come to fruition, many credit this display with swaying public opinion to support the interstate highway systems built in the decades that followed:
